Questions organisers ask.
Straight answers, including the ones where the honest answer is “use a human interpreter”. If yours is not here, ask us on WhatsApp or by email.
The basics
What is SIM.AI?
SIM.AI provides real-time AI interpretation and live captions for in-person events, delivered to your guests’ own phones. Your speakers are interpreted into up to 12 languages at the same time, chosen from 81, a few seconds behind the speaker. It is the AI division of Sim Trans, a UAE translation and interpretation company with offices in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
How is this different from a translation app on my phone?
A translation app serves one person holding up a phone and picks up whatever noise is in the room. SIM.AI takes a clean audio feed from the venue’s sound system, applies your glossary of names and terms, and serves every guest in the room from one session. Our team runs and monitors every language channel on the day, and you receive recordings, transcripts and subtitle files afterwards.
Do guests need to download an app?
No. Guests scan a QR code on a table card, badge or screen, and your event page opens in their phone’s browser. There is no app to install, no account and no sign-up.
Does SIM.AI replace human interpreters?
For many sessions it is a practical alternative, but not for all of them. Where every word carries legal or diplomatic weight, Sim Trans provides certified human interpreters, and many events combine the two. The AI vs human interpretation page sets out how to decide.
What kinds of events is it used for?
Conferences and summits, government briefings, corporate town halls, exhibitions, training sessions, university lectures and community gatherings, from a hotel meeting room to an exhibition centre hall. It works the same for twenty guests or five hundred. The Industries pages describe typical set-ups for each sector.
For your guests
What do guests need?
Their own phone, and earbuds or headphones if they want to listen. Guests who prefer to read can follow captions only, with no audio. It helps to mention earbuds in the joining instructions or invitation, so nobody plays the interpretation through their phone speaker.
Do guests need Wi-Fi or mobile data?
Yes, guests need an internet connection, either mobile data or venue Wi-Fi. Mobile signal can be weak in basement ballrooms and large exhibition halls, so we usually recommend offering venue Wi-Fi to guests and we check coverage with the venue during planning.
How do guests choose their language?
After scanning the QR code, guests see every available language listed in its own script, so an Urdu speaker finds اردو and a Hindi speaker finds हिन्दी. One tap selects it, and the interpretation starts in their earbuds with captions on screen.
Can a guest switch language or change how they follow the session?
Yes. Guests can go back to the language list and choose another language at any time. They can also choose audio and captions, or captions only, and tap “Show original” to see the speaker’s own words.
Does it help guests who are deaf or hard of hearing?
Live captions let guests read what is being said on their own phone, in their own language, which many guests who are deaf or hard of hearing find useful. Captions are machine-generated and can contain errors. If your accessibility plan requires verbatim human captioning or sign language interpretation, tell us early so we can plan the right support.
How many guests can listen at once?
There is no set limit on listeners. Twenty guests or five hundred join the same way, by scanning the QR code on their own phone.
Languages
How many languages can you cover?
SIM.AI offers 81 languages, and up to 12 can run at the same time from one audio feed. Arabic and English come first for most Gulf audiences, with Hindi, Urdu, Filipino, French, Mandarin and others as needed. The full list is on the Languages page, with each language shown in its own script.
Does it handle Arabic dialects?
Arabic is one of the 81 languages. The Arabic channel speaks Modern Standard Arabic by default, or a regional dialect on request, including Gulf dialects and the Arabic dialects of Africa. On the speaker side, machine interpretation is most reliable with clear speech; strong dialect, colloquial idiom and rapid switching between Arabic and English are where errors are more likely. Tell us who is speaking, and we will advise on a glossary, Precision mode or Sim Trans human Arabic interpreters for sessions where every word matters.
Can we add a language late, or during the session?
Yes. With SIM.AI a late language request is a setting, not a new booth, and a language can be added during a live session, up to 12 at the same time. Letting us know early still helps, so we can prepare glossary terms and print the right event cards.
What happens when a speaker switches language mid-session?
The system follows automatically. A panel that moves between Arabic and English, or a Q&A with questions from the floor in another language, keeps every language channel running without anyone touching the controls.
What if my language isn’t listed?
Contact us with the language and the event. Sim Trans works with human interpreters across many more languages, so a hybrid set-up, with human interpretation for that language and SIM.AI for the rest, is often the answer.
Planning and on the day
How much notice do you need?
As much as you can give. Time before the event lets us build your glossary, test the audio with the venue and prepare QR cards and badges. If your event is close, contact us anyway and we will tell you honestly what is possible.
What do you need from the venue?
An audio output from the venue’s mixing desk, a small position at the side of the room with power, a reliable internet connection for our equipment and Wi-Fi for guests. A contact on the AV crew makes the day easier. From you, the programme, speaker list and any slides help us prepare the glossary.
How long does set-up take?
Set-up itself takes minutes from one discreet position at the side of the room, with a laptop and an audio interface connected to the venue desk by XLR. We arrive with enough time to test the feed with the AV team before guests come in. There are no booths to build and no receivers to hand out.
Who runs the system on the day?
We do. Our team sets up, runs and monitors every language channel, and you never need to touch the system. The venue’s AV crew carries on as normal.
How do you monitor quality during the session?
Every language channel is watched live by our team throughout the session. We keep an eye on the incoming audio and the output in each language, and we work directly with the AV crew if the feed changes, for example when a microphone is muted or a video plays.
What happens if the internet connection drops?
SIM.AI needs an internet connection to run, so the connection is part of our planning, not an afterthought. We ask for wired internet at our position wherever possible, venue Wi-Fi for guests with mobile data as a backup, and we test both before the session. For sessions that cannot be interrupted, we agree a fallback with you in advance, such as Sim Trans human interpreters on standby.
Quality and when to choose humans
How accurate is AI interpretation?
It is good enough for many conferences, briefings and training sessions, but it is not perfect, and we do not quote accuracy figures. Errors are most likely with names, heavy accents, poor audio, overlapping speakers, humour, idiom and highly specialised terms. A clean audio feed, a good glossary and Precision mode reduce errors but do not remove them.
How does the glossary help?
Before the event we load the names, executive titles, product names and legal or technical terms your speakers will use, so they are rendered consistently in every language. Send us the programme, speaker list and slides as early as you can. Our article on preparing a glossary for an interpreted event explains what to include.
What is Precision mode?
Precision mode enforces your terminology and pronunciation for legal, government and technical sessions. The glossary is prepared with us in advance and applied strictly, so agreed terms do not vary from one mention to the next. The Precision mode page explains when it is worth using.
When should we choose human interpreters instead?
Choose certified human interpreters for legally binding proceedings, sensitive negotiations, medical consent and VIP protocol where every word matters. Sim Trans provides human simultaneous and consecutive interpreters in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and across the GCC, so you can ask one team for either.
Can we combine AI and human interpreters?
Yes, and many events do. A common set-up is human interpreters for the main Arabic–English pair or the VIP session, with SIM.AI covering additional languages or breakout rooms. The AI + human interpreters page describes typical combinations.
What can we do to get the best results?
Give us a clean feed from the venue desk rather than a room microphone, ask speakers to use their microphones and not talk over each other, and share names and slides early for the glossary. These are the same habits that help human interpreters.
Privacy and records
What do we receive after the event?
An audio recording of every language channel, written transcripts per language in .docx and .xlsx, standard subtitle files for your event video, and a usage report showing the languages used, session duration and listeners per language. The Transcripts and records page shows each deliverable.
How long do you keep recordings and transcripts?
Only as long as you want us to. Tell us your retention period when you book, and we will delete recordings and transcripts on request at any time. You can also run a session with no recording at all.
Can we keep a session private?
Yes. Sessions can be protected with a PIN so that only invited guests can join. This is how we run board meetings, legal briefings and other closed sessions.
Where is our data processed?
In the EU region by default, or in the UAE. Government entities, and any client who asks, can keep processing inside the UAE. The Security and privacy page gives more detail.
How does SIM.AI fit with the UAE’s data protection law (PDPL)?
We will work through your requirements under the UAE Personal Data Protection Law, or the rules of your free zone, with your legal or compliance team. We can explain how session data is processed and retained, offer UAE processing on request, and share a named list of our technology providers for your review.
Are the transcripts suitable as an official record?
They are a useful working record for minutes and reports, but they are machine-generated and can contain errors. If you need an official or certified record, have the transcript reviewed, and for legal documents ask Sim Trans about legal and certified translation.
Pricing
How is SIM.AI priced?
Per event, based on session duration, the number of languages and the services you choose, such as captions, recordings, Precision mode or human interpreters alongside. Every event is quoted, and organisations that run events regularly can ask about subscription packages. The Pricing page explains what goes into a quote.
How do I get a quote?
Send us the date, venue, session length, the languages your audience speaks and any special requirements through the Contact page, or message us on WhatsApp. We reply within 24 hours with a quote and a recommended set-up, and we are happy to talk it through on a consultation call first.
Do you charge per guest?
There is no set limit on listeners. Your quote is based on duration, languages and services, so a larger audience does not mean renting more receivers.
Is it cheaper than booths and receivers?
It removes booths, receivers and their handling from the budget, which often changes the sums for multilingual events, but the answer depends on the event. Because Sim Trans provides both, we can price both set-ups and tell you honestly which suits your session. The SIM.AI vs traditional booths page compares them in detail.
Can I sign up and pay online?
Not yet. Self-service sign-up and online payment are coming soon. For now, every event and subscription package is quoted and arranged directly with our team, through the contact form or WhatsApp.
